[Media Meandry] Typo Or Fix?

As a writing koan, which came first: the typo or the fix? Although we want to rely on spellcheckers, they might not catch when the mind goes in wild. During my writing meandry for S&M2, for my 2020 Album Review Game, I wrote: “While I give out forty 5-star ratings to albums….” Correction: “While I have given out forty albums 5-star ratings as of late 2020…” Would it have been a problem had I not caught it?

[Travelogue Trivialities] The Air’s Clearer: April 2020

Although the town I found myself in had always been cleaner than most I used to find myself in before current events, I could better see the mountains and the air was clearer and cleaner. If our worldwide quarantines last for months longer, we’ll have to address this new reality where even one month without our collective daily single-occupancy commutes can be enough to notice major differences in our environments. Will we re-invite commuter pollution?

[Book Review] 4-Hour Workweek, Ferriss

It’s fitting that I’m writing this review of The 4-Hour Workweek while on the clock. I’m currently paid to be “ready” to take a call. Over the course of the past two hours, there’s been nothing for me to do, even while scratching around at things I can do. Not enough to exceed a comfortable middle ground. I do, after all, am prioritizing my writing. In this sense, I think Tim Ferriss would be proud.

[Applied Self-Confidence] 2019 In Review

Late last year, I mused over what goals I wanted to achieve in 2019. Now that it’s approaching 2020, how did I do? My New Year’s Resolution was “removing more burdens from my life,” which, I achieved. I’ll use the same resolution, “removing more [external] burdens from my life,” since it efficiently summarizes what I want out of my life. After reviewing my favorite media, I’ll write about my goals and how I plan to achieve them.

[Downsizing Zeal] One Free Book

“Oh, this one? You have to get one more book to go over $5…[1]” She motioned her eyes seductively. “Oh, really…?[2]” I wasn’t interested in purchasing any books and had just gone in to use a coupon good for one free book. “Lemme see. No. Just ring ‘im up.[3]” The transaction was over and after that, my free book, and first new book acquisition in months felt also like a study in subtle manipulation in sales.

[Moving Zeal] Boxes of Books

When I moved furniture for minimal wage, we estimated the two densest things to move: textiles, then books. Bundles of rolled-up carpet were only beat by furniture. Large boxes of books might not seem bad until you have to move it a few times or the fatigue kicks in. All the boxes I’m using for books are smaller than around 12″ width, 12″ height, and 12″ depth. You never know who’ll give you a hand. Strong or otherwise.

[The Story] Ten Dollar Coupon

“Are there any sales or discounts going on?[1]” “Yeah… I can see about giving you ten dollars off.[2]” If “The Story” is essentially analogous to the real world, and John [leftmost] and Trishna [left] are attempting their best to navigate the world without getting screwed over, how would they – and we – go about it? John learned half of an effective strategy for negotiation implied in the quote above and Trishna learned the other half. Together?
