While reading 101 Habits of Highly Successful Screenwriters, hurtling myself toward 1,000 essays published over the past 3+ years on Better Zombie, I’ve thought about how much of those “habits” are things you learn as you write. This website started as an experiment. Maybe something to do occasionally. It just kept gaining momentum. Not in terms of monetary compensation. Other than one essay netting me a $40 voucher, I haven’t made a cent here, and I’m happy about that.
Thrift stores are wrought with morality and mortality. Every item was once someone’s misguided best intentions, loss of interest, or change in life situation. It’s no one’s fault. Handling donations one winter years back, I once accepted a woman’s donations and the story of her daughter outgrowing them, only to see some of those innocent objects destroyed in the trash compactor hours later. At least I gave her a sense of restoring her intended honor.
I’m testing an idea of peppering rewardingly time-consuming content like reviews between content I can write quickly, like updates to The Story, with the goal of getting those creative gears moving more efficiently. These updates to The Story will be spoiler-free because after all I haven’t decided the formal name let alone began writing it yet, When I do, I’ll use a tag, and until then here’s my recent brainstorming and musings after the jump.
