[Downsizing Zeal] Rose-Colored Reflections Upon Clutter

As I gazed upon the otherworldly vastness of my depleting clutter empire, filling my apartment-mansion with innocent material wealth, I realized that somewhere between my Moving Zeal journey’s start in Winter 2018 and here in Spring 2019, my rose-colored glasses have shattered. I’m seeing crappy clutter rather than prized possessions. I continue photographing and sharing this journey in Downsizing Zeal because I am learning for myself what might be obvious to a neutral observer of these photographs.

[Moving Zeal] Limited Inventory Systems

I’ve always been frustrated when games like EarthBound have limited inventories. I want to carry more than 99 widgets! Through this process of downsizing my possessions, so that when I move I can perhaps consider a studio apartment in the city, I’ve realized the elegance of this mechanic. It forces you to be strategic! Use items when you need them and discard junk. They are micro-simulators for reducing the physical and mental clutter in our lives.
