[2019 Novel] This Novel’s Purpose

I might read my 50-cent copy of Dune someday, but I’ll certainly rewatch Jodorowsky’s Dune first. Science fiction doesn’t do much for me. Analyzing scientific statistics against a starry backdrop doesn’t excite me. What human element does that story convey where I will have become a better person for experiencing it? I don’t have ten-thousand years to live. I’ve gotta make this whole life thing count. This novel’s purpose might contain elements of that drive.

[The Story] Scrapping Publishable Words

I’ve had to shelve and nearly scrap 1000 publishable words. They’re good words that tell two good short stories. It’s just the series lead in a direction that won’t accomplish what I’m trying to do with the Sammohini Arc of “The Story.” 90% of it should be fiction practice and 10% should build context for John and Trishna’s Arc, the final and most ambitious story arc. Here’s why I haven’t dived in and started telling their developing story.

[Applied Self-Confidence] 501 And Counting

My bull-headed dash through 501 essays has taught me to eschew listless energy. I’m focused on what directly or indirectly helps my mission of becoming a professional writer. When times are bad, escape into nuances that might push along the mission. When times are good, go full-bore! The more practice, the less insecurity I’ve felt over trivialities, enabling “this” to become a natural part of my life. Writing is as subconscious for me as eating breakfast.

[Rowing Machine] Two Five Six

This weekly rowing column has kept me on track. The fortnightly weigh-in yielded positive results, going from 258.8 to 255.8 pounds, and I’ve been able to increase my endurance to the point where I rowed through most of Jodorowsky’s Dune. I am completely exhausted now, and might wake up sore, so normally it’d be time for most to be idle. That’s dangerous thinking! You should always be either working toward your goals or sleeping.
