I started my broadcasting adventures on October 29, 2020. It was a dark evening, and I remember standing in my kitchen, thinking, “I want to play FF7 and I want to broadcast it.” Before talking to Collector 5 days prior, I’d been completely against the idea of broadcasting. I want to be a writer! I want to write fiction! How can I write if I’m screwing around, playing videogames? Let’s talk about how broadcasting ties in with writing.
My streams have been infrequent lately, so this one was like a return to form, considering I’d spent the past few streams doing art or retro content. What I enjoy about using jank blocks is that I can easily draw diagrams that either help me tell “The Story,” based on lessons I learned writing “Novel 01” to write “Novel 02” and beyond, or, talk about complex psychological topics like the poison/evil everyone has deep inside of ourselves.

On a day like today, I couldn’t make much progress in “The Story.” My spine is flaring up from pain too much and it feels so oppressive that I honestly doubt I will ever feel better. I don’t know what will happen. On days like today, having written “Novel 01” felt so far away, and writing “Novel 02” feels impossible. Even though my neuropathy is getting worse, I’ll still keep on doing my best to write something.

What fits within “The Story” and what doesn’t? “Novel 01” was a fairly concise, which I know is funny when you think of my writing at length, look at one 30-day scenario. “Novel 02,” too, will have a concise scope that… well, I hope will be something I can write and something I can do, but with my body deteriorating the way it is, I guess it’s more of a long-term dream for me than something real.

In the world of “The Story,” and as I wrote it in “Novel 01,” the city of Eville was the ‘big city’ in town, but as I’ve been building out the infrastructure, I’ve noticed that Eville might actually be a smaller city… If Sammohini works at Eville Medical, why is it located somewhere so geographically flat? It might not be the first hospital in the area. I have time to figure that out before writing “Novel 02.”

I’ve been really enjoying where my mind goes when I do these livestreams and when I take thoughts from the audience and roll with them. When I listen back to the audio, I feel like I’m doing a fair job reading the chat and then talking, and the numbers are good, but I think more so, these livestreams are helping me with “The Story.” I didn’t have an audience for “Novel 01.” I will for “Novel 02.”

After I got a Retro, some negativity, and a Speedpaint stream out of my system, I got back into my Minecraft map with a loose plan. Since my intentions are to tell “The Story,” I use my thoughts from having written “Novel 01” to guide me along toward “Novel 02.” If this world-building process can help me tell fiction, and if I can get support from those along the way, then it should be a win-win, right?

Well, it’s difficult to get online and not express myself honestly. I don’t know how this will turn out long-term on days like the day I’m writing this where I’ve felt like shit physically, and now mentally, for long enough to where it makes doing much of anything difficult. I do the best I can to express positivity elsewhere. I guess building “The Story,” as I learned with “Novel 01,” means progressing through “Novel 02” and beyond.

On Twitch, the big milestone to reach is having 50 followers. What this means is that 50 people have added you to their Twitch feeds, so that when you livestream, they will be notified of when you’re livestreaming, and might stop by to check it out. Twitch very confusingly uses the word “subscription” for something slightly different. I reached that milestone and wanted to celebrate that, so I asked: more Minecraft, an art stream, or something retro?
This thing I do, these livestreams, are they Art? Are they a chatting session to discuss whatever? Or are they gameplay footage? Twitch has no good category for what I’m doing because what I’m doing is so niche and so different that it’s hard to categorize. If I want to write “The Story,” then I have to build on what I learned writing “Novel 01” to write “Novel 02” and part of that involves writing more interactively.
