For the first few years of my professional life, I remember feeling almost envy toward office workers. It’s been long enough ago now that I can say what I did. Almost weekendly, I joined teams of dozens – if not hundreds – of people moving hundreds – if not thousands – of workstations at Microsoft’s headquarters. Throughout these essays where I’ve brainstormed while playing Pokémon LeafGreen, I’ve discovered realizations about videogame mechanics/stories I like and my motivations in life. [Career/Confidence] Good, Bad Bosses

I’ve been an employee for many bosses, talked to many managers, and have studied some management tactics. I see the biggest difference between good and bad managers is one word: trust. If you hire specialists in areas you should generally know, let your people do their jobs, check in if they need help, and clear the path for them. Otherwise, you are the one creating unnecessary roadblocks and dropping the morale of otherwise hard-working employees.
